Treatment for Humans

Gentle Manipulation

Dianne uses gentle manipulation to maintain and restore health by the realignment of the spine and other joints of the body using a technique based upon the philosphy and teachings of John McTimoney.

Since the whole body is controlled by the nervous system and most of the body’s nerve supply passes through the spine, it follows that if the spine is maintained in it’s correct alignment, nerve impulses travel freely and without interference so allowing natural self healing to maintain health.  Joints of the skeletal frame can become misaligned due to sport, lifting, accidental injury as well as poor posture, occupational hazards and many stresses of daily life.

The technique is a gentle whole body approach and is suitable for all ages from young baby through to the elderly.  It can be useful for muscular aches & strains, lack of mobility and stiffness in joints as well as sports injuries and whiplash injury to the neck.

The conditions often presented include:

  • Migraine and Tension Headaches
  • Neck and Shoulder Tension
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Knee and Ankle problems.

For more information refer to Classical Manipulation.

Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique is a gentle effective treatment working on the muscles and soft tissue to give pain relief, promote healing, and increase energy levels. It was developed by Thomas Ambrose Bowen of Geelong, Australia and was brought to the UK in 1993 when training courses were developed.  During treatment the body is encouraged to realign itself without the need for manipulation or force which makes the treatment so unique.  The Bowen Technique aims to balance the whole person not to just treat the symptoms.
The work can be performed through light clothing and 2 or 3 treatments at weekly intervals are often sufficient to achieve lasting relief from even long standing problems although sometimes further treatment may be required.

It is used for Back, Neck and Joint related problems as with the Manipulation but is also useful for Asthma, Hayfever and M.E.sufferers and is also suitable for  children and the elderly.  Practically any problem can potentially be addressed and many people use The Bowen Technique as a means of stress management and health maintenance seeing their Bowen Therapist 2-4 times a year.

After 20 years of ongoing and varied manipulative treatments on my back and neck, I came to consider having a session of the Bowen Technique as just another vain attempt to relieve my chronic pain and fatigue. Dianne fitted me in at the end of her first day back after the New Year - it turned out to be the best New Year I can remember.

Initial treatment was weekly, gradually becoming less frequent until now, eight months later I am having a top up treatment every 3 months. I can now sleep in whatever position I chose and am nowhere near as grumpy. I have also noticed a significant improvement in my energy levels and am feeling so much more like my old self.

Following a recommendation from a friend I went to see Dianne with terrible lower back pain, which was relieved by a few Bowen treatments.

During the first consultation she took an in depth history of aches and pains and I mentioned an old problem with my left hip. I had been referred by my GP to see a physiotherapist about the hip, who gave up; I had an MRI scan and was told by the consultant that a hip arthroscopy might help but he could not give any guarantees, so I declined and decided to live with what had become a pretty constant discomfort in my hip.

Dianne said that she felt that she could help with my hip pain as well as the lower back and the change has been extraordinary. I now now longer think about my hip and am 99% pain free.

Several years ago I was the owner of 2 horses and 3 dogs, plus several other horses were kept at my stable yard. I found Dianne's details and read up about the treatments she offered and because I would not use an untested therapy on my animals I went to see her myself first.

My complaint at that time was Plantar Fasciitis which I had suffered from for a prolonged period of time. Some relief had been obtained from strapping from a traditional chiropractor and I had basic insoles in my boots and shoes and I stopped wearing wellington boots, but it had never really gone away and I had learnt to live with it.

So I arrived for my appointment and was surprised to be met by a lovely petite and calm lady, thinking how can she work with my big horses, but I explained my problem and Dianne proceeded with her gentle and reassuring manner to assess me and treat me. Well, the treatment was a revelation because it did not hurt at all and I had had some very painful experiences at the traditional chiropractor. So that was the first bonus, but the most incredible thing was that from that day forward I have not had the heel pain back from the plantar fasciitis and it has thankfully become a distant memory.

Since then Dianne has treated me for knee pain, lower back pain, wrist pain, and a frozen shoulder, not all at the same time and usually caused by something to do with my animals for example being knocked over by an enthusiastic 2 year old mare, or shifting the muck heap, or slipping in the mud while walking the dogs.

Amazingly Dianne has always been able to take the pain away and allow me to carry on with looking after my animals and children. She would always discuss with me the cause of any problems and we would agree on whether to use McTimoney or Bowen treatments.
